Dealing with
Unmet Expectations

Dealing with Unmet Expectations

We interrupt our regularly scheduled post for this news flash…after five years of creating beautiful jewellery, Jenny (my master craftswoman at Kaya Jewellery) unexpectedly RESIGNED. Ugh! 😳  So, with three weeks to Christmas and orders to fill, how will Marlowe deal with:
1) big change
2) big shock
3) big cranky and
4) unmet expectations

Hmmm… not sure! I’ve noticed the theme of unmet expectations coming up a lot lately - and it feels like a kick in the teeth every stinkin’ time it happens. 🥴

An unmet expectation is the disappointment we feel when things don’t turn out the way we planned. It’s also something we try to avoid like the plague but never do! Perhaps I can learn to change my perception the moment the disappointment happens, and stop the whole rotten experience in its tracks? Maybe?

I suppose if I were to take time to reflect, and dig around a bit, there’s a growth opportunity in here somewhere. The thing is, being a small business owner I’m just so exhausted and here is yet another hurdle to get past. Besides, I don’t want to grow! I’m already stretched to my absolute limits. You’d think by now, I would be better at coping with all the stress and uncertainty, but I’m not. Seriously, I suck at it!

Maybe I have difficulty with unmet expectations because I’m an optimist and truly believe everything will go my way. Or maybe its because I’m a control freak and I want things to happen exactly my way. Or maybe is because I’m a three year old inside and I don’t know how to control my emotions.

Bah… I think managing expectations is a conscious choice that must be made minute to minute, each and every day. And its also necessary to have internal fortitude, so that’s where the self-care starts to become really important. I think I’ll take myself for a manicure tomorrow, or a nice lunch and contemplate my next move.

Have you had any curve balls thrown your way at the worst time ever? How did you deal with it? Tell me, tell me, tell me! I need to know your solutions to this problem.

Go on now, pop your thoughts in comments.

PS: That’s me walking up the very steep path to my house at the end of a very long day. So glad to be home… so, so glad.

Setbacks: I see obstacles as an opportunity to grow

SETBACKS. Oh life, how you love to play tricks on our plans, self-esteem, waist line… you name it, everything is up for being meddled with! I’m working on my resilience and trying to improve my mindset so I quickly rebound from those most unwelcome setbacks and hurdles that just seem to keep coming. This too shall pass.

THIS IS ME

A SMALL INTRODUCTION. I left Canada to marry a wonderful Aussie man and was just settling into motherhood when he suffered a stroke from a bad neck manipulation. It was a difficult time and I was left to take care of my baby, my husband and maintain the household on my own. I was exhausted and quickly realised that if I didn’t take care of myself, my health would fail and my family would fall apart. I refused to let that happen, so self-care became my focus.

IT TOOK TIME. But I got through it and was determined to turn my experience into a blessing. I left my career in architecture and started Kaya Jewellery, where I create meaningful keepsake pieces that bring comfort and hope, helping people get through their difficult times, just as I did.

To support people in their wellness journey, our designs combine meditation and positive affirmations with healing crystal gemstones and lava beads to diffuse essential oils.

Wear them  to help you get past your challenges so you can reclaim your vibrancy. You’ll feel the positive energy that is infused in your special piece and it will help you move forward. I know you’ll love yours.

Sending hugs, Marlowe 💖
